Summer has eventually arrived after much anticipation on whether we were actually going to see summer this year. With its arrival comes time to get the garden in shape, gardening is often considered a peaceful hobby that gets the creative juices flowing.

I must say that there is nothing better than stepping into a garden that has been cared for, that oozes beauty while remaining comfortable and charming.

The Lawn

The grass, the long grass that never seems to stop growing. We should be thankful here in the UK with all the rain we experience, at least the majority of lawns are green. When you head over to the warmer climate in Africa, for example, the grass is brown and hard to the touch.

Keeping the lawn short ensures your garden is a comfortable place where both you and the family can enjoy outdoor time on the warmer summer days.

Flower Beds

If you choose to plant flowers to brighten up your garden, take the time to choose carefully. Many flowers require specific conditions, some love having lots of sunshine while others thrive in the shade. You need to know exactly where in the garden you intend planting your flowers before heading off to the garden centre. This way you can ensure you have beautiful colour in your garden while the summer is in full swing.

Trees

Trees are a fantastic addition to any garden and have a range of convenient uses; you can use trees to add privacy to your garden, planting them along your garden fence. They also offer shade and can bear fruit, offering your organic fresh fruit for your entire family.

Planting trees in your garden is very much like flowers, you need to carefully choose where you wish to plant them, so you can determine which are the right ones for your garden. Remember the majority of trees do lose their leaves during autumn, which means you will need to do some work to keep your garden in tip top shape.

Composting

If you have space in your garden, putting a compost bin together is a superb way to offer your garden organic nutrients enabling it to thrive. Compost is so easy to make and with a bit of effort you can give your garden excellent nutrients which are completely chemical free.

Weed Eradication

I think most of my time in the garden is spent getting rid of unwanted weeds. It doesn’t matter how beautiful your garden is, if you have spent hours making it perfect the weeds are guaranteed to show up and ruin everything.
